About The Position

The Teacher for the Carpentry Program reports to Director of Career and Technical Education. This 10-month, full time teaching position provides students the experience of learning from instructors in a co-teaching environment. The responsibilities of the Carpentry teacher include but are not limited to; Implementing and developing Chapter 74-Mass state curriculum. The curriculum will involve all aspects of the Carpentry industry, including house carpentry, general construction, LEED/Green Building principles, and cabinetry. Educating students in the Career and Technical Education Carpentry pathway the principles of technology, safety, planning, management, and technical skills. Work independently and with colleagues to teach & maintain a program of study that meets all requirements of Chapter 74 regulations and prepares students for learning all aspects of Carpentry. Collaborate and share facilities with the co-carpentry teacher to meet requirements and regulations of a Chapter 74 Carpentry program. Adapting curriculum and Project Based Learning effectively and efficiently for a diverse student population including students with special needs, disabilities and limited proficiency in English. Instruction must be compliant with all health and safety regulations. Establish and meet business objectives for an ongoing business enterprise in the Carpentry program. Develop and maintain a network of business professionals in the Carpentry Industry as per the Program Advisory Committee requirements. Effectively meet with an active Program Advisory Committee that meets a minimum of twice annually. Perform the duties of a teacher including maintaining attendance, grades, and other duties associated with being a faculty member at Waltham High School. Maintain all Carpentry equipment in good working order including planning and implementing appropriate upgrades to Carpentry equipment to reflect industry trends and standards. Teach OSHA 10-hour course, teach CADD and/or Blueprint reading/drawing for Carpentry, & perform all other essential duties as assigned by the Career and Technical Director.

Requirements

  • A clear understanding of G.L. Chapter 74 regulations
  • A thorough knowledge of how to teach the competencies and standards of the Carpentry Frameworks
  • Five (5) years (within the last 7 years) full-time employment experience directly related to Carpentry
  • Successful experience with and/or a strong commitment to Cultural Proficiency and the success of all students in a diverse urban population
  • Demonstrated capacity to modify instruction to help meet the needs of all students enrolled in Carpentry, experience and demonstrated competence in all aspects of the Carpentry industry
  • Experience in training students for eligibility for the OSHA 10-hour card
  • A Mass. Construction Supervisor license
  • A MA DESE CVTE License as a Carpentry Teacher, or be eligible for it

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Blueprint reading & drawing and CADD programming is highly desirable
