About The Position

Facilities Management at JMU currently has an open position for a Carpenter
Senior. This position ensures safety and security of JMU buildings and
structures by providing quality work on a variety of structures using various
materials and ensuring code compliance.

Requirements

• Extensive experience using electrical and manual power tools safely and effectively related to the carpentry trade
• Demonstrated ability to install fixtures and repair furniture
• Extensive knowledge of carpentry principles, practices and techniques
• Knowledge of building trades
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to fulfill rotating on call responsibilities and accommodate any necessary temporary shift demands

Responsibilities

• Installing, repairing and replacing new and existing doors
• Installing and repairing various door closures, electronic locks and latches
• Constructing, fabricating, repairing and maintaining a variety of structures, displays, storage units among other items consisting of wood, plastic Corian, Lexan, laminates etc..
• Completing projects that require creative solutions, research and design
• Repairing anything made of wood such as desks, furniture and cabinets
• Erecting new walls and repairing of existing walls consistent with state and federal code regulations
• Consulting and assisting engineers, electricians, plumbers and utility shop on university wide projects
