About The Position

The Career Services Specialist will provide career exploration, job search and employer-engagement services to current credit and non-credit program students and recent alumni of the community college. Work includes one-on-one counseling, workshops, employer engagement, and providing career development information and assistance aligned with the college's student success and workforce development goals. NECC's diverse student population includes traditional college students, Early College, adult learners/career changers/non-traditional students, and English language learners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Counseling, Education, or closely related field with two (2) years experience and/or training involving career counseling, recruitment, or counseling; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working with diverse community college populations and with adult learners.
  • Strong knowledge of career development resources, career readiness, and activities for adult learners.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience working with adults in HSE, ESOL, or literacy programs.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual career advising sessions (career exploration, major/career research, resume and cover letter review, interview prep).
  • Deliver workshops and classroom presentations on career exploration, job search strategies, networking, resume writing, and interviewing.
  • Collaborate with professors, instructors, program coordinators, and others to integrate career readiness activities into programs.
  • Maintain and expand relationships and engagement with employers; coordinate on-campus recruitment events and employer panels.
  • Manage and update job postings, resources, and employer information in the college's career platform.
  • Support internship and other work-based learning preparation and placement processes, coordinated with academic departments and workforce partners.
  • Track student engagement and report basic metrics to supervisor; participate in department meetings and outreach events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with classification for Unit Professional positions.
