About The Position

A Career Peer Mentor is a paraprofessional working alongside professional staff and other interns in the Career Services office. Career Peer Mentors help students with resumes and cover letters but will also have the opportunity to present to groups on campus and complete projects tailored to their interests! This is a spring semester internship open to ALL majors, but it may be particularly interesting to those interested in business, human resources, psychology, student affairs, and writing! The first semester is a 2-credit internship while training and learning are taking place. Internship Details: 2 Credit Internship (during the spring 2026 semester) Availability needed for the spring 2026 semester and fall 2026 Training embedded into the spring schedule Opportunities for presentations and to represent the college at career and professional events

Requirements

  • Must be available for 2 drop-in hours sessions Monday-Thursday,1-3 p.m. and for joint training hours TBD
  • Must be available for the spring 2026 semester and fall 2026
  • GPA of 2.5 and above
  • Must be a SUNY Cortland Student
  • Interpersonal and written communication
  • Possess a growth mindset
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work 1:1 with peers with professionalism and integrity

Responsibilities

  • Meet one-on-one with students for resume and cover letter critiques during open hours both virtually and in-person (CPM will work in-person at Career Services)
  • Conduct presentations on basic resume/cover letter writing skills and promote Career Services to the campus community, including COR 101 classes in the spring 2026 semester and fall 2026
  • Gain proficiency in interviewing techniques, basic job search strategies, and demonstrating a professional online presence
  • Participate in Career Services events, workshops, and activities as available
  • Complete projects that promote career and professional development for Cortland students
  • Manage Career Services Social Media accounts to promote Career Service events and career development across campus
