PROGRAM SUMMARY: Goodwill SWPA's Opportunity Centers are free, comprehensive, career development hubs that help job job seekers through workforce development programs focused on addressing barriers to employment. These holistic programs provide a variety of services, such as job search assistance, career counseling, and training for base level, in-demand skills. Opportunity Centers also work with Goodwill SWPA's Business Engagement Team, connecting community members to local employers for sustainable employment. POSITION SUMMARY: The Career Navigator will plan and facilitate career readiness and job placement activities to meet our participant’s individual employment goals, setting them up for long-term career satisfaction. This position will work in collaboration with Goodwill Human Service team members to provide training and employment opportunities for participants entering and being served through our Opportunity Center program operations. The Career Navigator will provide intake, assessments, facilitate workshops, and job search support, with a focus on job coaching and career development to meet the goals of the program and program participants. This role will be pivotal in supporting community outreach efforts within their assigned Opportunity Center territory and will be expected to work a flexible schedule with varying hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of employees and visitors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND 5 years of experience required.
  • OR Associates degree in Communications/Marketing, Business/Management, Social Services, or other related field AND 3 years of experience required.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Communications/Marketing, Business/Management, Social Services, or other related field AND 1 year of experience required.
  • Experience working with at risk and/or vulnerable populations (familiarity with the Morgantown region, a plus).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with job seekers and employers in a job placement function.
  • Qualified candidates must have a valid driver's license, active insurance policy, and reliable transportation for local travel.
  • Candidates are expected to provide current, valid clearances (Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints Clearance, and PATCH) prior to their first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with facilitating workshops and assisting adults with achieving employment goals.
  • Public speaking and individual needs assessment skills, highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate career readiness workshops during client orientation and throughout enrollment, direct individuals to specific career readiness workshops offered by Goodwill and established community partners.
  • Provide job-specific training, support, and supervision to community members, including individuals with disabilities/barriers to employment, by ensuring that individuals’ needs are met, goals are implemented, and a safe environment is maintained.
  • Deliver quality job search, pre-employment supports, job placement and career development services through collaboration and the utilization of job readiness assessments, job search technologies and resources to identify jobs according to participant abilities, skills, and interests.
  • Collaborate with Goodwill’s Business Engagement team and established community partners for up-to-date knowledge of local labor market and employer partnerships in order to identify available employment and work-based training opportunities within Goodwill and other employers as they relate to the needs and interest of job seekers and partner employers.
  • Develop relationships with employers seeking employment and work activity opportunities to meet the needs of clients in their communities and identify resources needed to support these initiatives, when applicable.
  • Provide onsite customer service and create a welcoming environment for attendants of classes, meetings and community events at the Opportunity Center.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with the Human Service division’s service areas to maintain up to date knowledge of the agency’s programs and services along with community resources across the territory.
  • Communicate production/job specific expectations to the client; meet regularly with site management to ensure communication of business needs, when applicable.
  • Be aware of and follow guidelines for all applicable regulatory entities such as Department of Human Services, Department of Labor, and WV Department of Education.
