About The Position

The Career & Internship Center has outstanding opportunities for Career Coaches to join their team. The Career & Internship Center at the University of Washington (UW) Seattle Campus assists students from all backgrounds as they explore industries and careers; learn about and develop skills for professional success; secure and reflect upon career-related experiences; articulate their skills and experience to others; and launch post-graduation plans. Team Description - Career Coaching Team Through in-person and virtual 1:1 and group services, our coaching team supports students and recent graduates in exploring careers, securing internships and jobs, and applying to graduate and professional school. Each career coach also produces web content for 2 interest communities and 1 identity community. The team is supervised by the center’s Associate Director for Coaching Operations. Position Details - Career Coach The role will be eligible for up to 40% (2 days) of telework per week, depending on staff, employer, and student needs, but will gradually build to 40% telework during the training period.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of career coaching/counseling/advising experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
  • Experience providing quick advice to different students in brief back-to-back sessions.
  • Skill in facilitating online, in-person, and recorded presentations with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally in writing.
  • Proficiency in utilizing and trouble-shooting issues with computer applications and online platforms (i.e. MS Office, Zoom, shared cloud storage spaces, databases, Handshake etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Help undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates with a wide range of career development topics such as choosing a career path, occupational research, resume/cover letter review, job & internship search strategies, interviewing assistance, and applying to graduate/professional schools.
  • Position requires a minimum of 15 hours of one-to-one student contact per week (both in-person and virtual), though additional coaching hours may be required based on seasonal needs.
  • Facilitate workshops and webinars, teach credit-bearing career courses, and assist with career fairs and other events.
  • Develop curriculum for workshops, webinars, courses, and other events, often in collaboration with academic units and other partners
  • Create web content, handouts, videos and other print and digital resources
  • For two interest areas and one student identity group: write blog posts, review emails about relevant resources, and curate resources
  • Revise resources to ensure they stay relevant and accurate
  • Tailor materials to enhance applicability to various groups of students
  • Administrative – manage complex calendaring system; report on activities and attendance; grade student assignments; respond to emails from students, staff, and a range of other groups; attend to requested action items in a timely manner
  • Mentorship - provide training and support to a peer career coach (as available)
  • Professional development – attend webinars and other trainings; research trends and find information related to student development, career development, the job market, and assigned communities; seek and implement feedback from others
  • Perform other tasks and work on special projects to support center operations, as well as help cover the front desk for short periods as needed
