About The Position

The Career Coach will counsel individuals to maximize the independence and employability of persons with vocational difficulties. They will provide case management services to eligible able-bodied adults without dependents who receive Food Assistance and participate in the Food Assistance Employment & Training (FAE&T) program; applying or receiving Cash assistance and required to attend the P.A.T.H.(Partnership, Accountability, Training and Hope) program. Case Managers must be able to work with diverse populations, provide employment and training counseling, enter detailed information on a state-wide database, understand and utilize job development skills, manage client program participation hours to meet goals, and provide follow up support services to ensure the success of our participants. This position is a grant funded position; position expected to transition into a full-time position May 2026

Requirements

  • High School (HS) Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • 1 -2 years of experience in case management, social services, human services, including relevant internships.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills for interacting with clients, families, and providers.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Windows 7, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for career counseling and guidance.
  • Must have excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality and interests; and learning and motivation.

  • Must maintain an unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and possess a clear driving record (in accordance with company insurance policy) to drive the company vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior CAMW! adult program services experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or equivalent preferred
  • 2-4 years of related experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct client intake and orientation.
  • Prepare and maintain records and case files, including documentation such as clients’ personal and eligibility information services provided, narratives of client contacts and relevant correspondence.
  • Develop individualized plans of service that fit clients’ aptitudes, education levels, physical abilities, and career goals in a demand driven workforce development system.
  • Monitor and record clients’ progress to ensure that goals and objectives are met.
  • Maintain close contact with clients after placement to resolve problems and evaluate placement adequacy.
  • Confer with referral agencies and community partners to develop and implement service plans.
  • Coordinate FAE&T Workfare/PATH volunteer site assignments with the Community Liaison.
  • Coordinate client services in collaboration with other programs.
  • In cooperation with PATH Career Coaches, arrange and/or teach job seeking skills, retention skills, and life skills for participants.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community referral sources, such as schools, human service agencies and community groups appropriate to the needs of clients.
  • Locate barriers to client employment, such as inaccessible work sites, inflexible schedules, and transportation problems, and work with clients to develop strategies for overcoming these barriers.
  • Analyze information from interviews, educational and medical records, consultation with other professionals, and diagnostic evaluations to assess clients’ abilities, needs, and eligibility for services.
  • Maintain excellent communication with DHHS partner staff regarding client status.
  • Monitor available job leads, scholarships, and customized training opportunities, screen clients and make referrals when appropriate.
  • Participate in community and employer events with CAMW! and Peckham, Inc.
  • Maintain timely case file documentation on OSMIS and in hard copy file.
  • Maintain accurate documentation on participant program activities as specified by the State of Michigan, Peckham, DHHS and CAMW!
  • Maintain knowledge of FAE&T, PATH and CAMW! program policy.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations as defined in the contract.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Attend and participate in meetings for client service planning.
  • Support outcome measures, Mission Engagement Experiences, and other Peckham monthly/quarterly reports.
  • Utilize a team work approach for all projects.
  • Demonstrate respectful, compassionate, and service-oriented behavior when interacting with team members, staff, and other departments.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment.
  • Promote Peckham’s vision values and services to all team members, staff, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Assist in maintaining organizational wide quality standards.
  • Regular and predictable attendance are required of this position to support the team and needs of the operations.
