About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Lancaster Correctional Institution in the Education Department. This position is for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching position in Environmental Services. Our mission in the Education Department is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates. Our goal is to enhance inmates' academic, vocational, and life skills, thereby promoting personal development and successful reintegration into society. By offering quality education and training, we aim to reduce recidivism and support inmates in becoming productive, law-abiding citizens. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves. The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching the assigned career and technical subject(s) to students at a correctional institution/facility. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and must have six (6) years of experience in Environmental services OR possess a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in Environmental services; or
  • Possession of current licensure or certification(s) in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate of completion (must submit transcript/certificate of completion) may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subject(s), utilizing various teaching techniques and activities to assist students with their educational advancement.
  • Responsible for the supervision of inmates assigned to the class.
  • Conducts roll calls counts and maintaining attendance records.
  • Counsels and advises individuals regarding their program progress, behavior or personal concern.
  • Continually evaluates students and makes determinations as to overall progress and administers grades and evaluates tests.
