About The Position

Urbana School District #116 TITLE: Career and Technical Education Teacher - 7th and 8th (focus on Industrial and Construction Trades) LOCATION: Urbana Middle School SUPERVISOR: Urbana Middle School Principal Urbana’s PACE framework and Career, Technical, and Education (CTE) and work-based learning programs are designed to ensure that all students, especially those historically underserved, have access to meaningful pathways and opportunities. The teacher will teach quarterly classes to 7th and 8th graders with the focus on industrial, manufacturing, and construction trades.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a CTE endorsement for grades 6-12
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education, counseling, social sciences, or a related field (required)
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience at the middle or high school level, except in the case of a new college graduate.
  • Strong knowledge of college and career readiness systems, postsecondary pathways, and workforce development
  • Understanding of the Illinois PaCE Framework and CTE pathways for the state and the district
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Communicate high expectations for teaching and learning
  • Ability to analyze data to inform decisions and improve equity
  • Cultural humility and commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Ability to engage and motivate students across diverse backgrounds
  • Proficiency with educational technology and data platforms

Nice To Haves

  • Work-based learning certification preferred or willingness to acquire the certification

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lesson plans, demonstrations, and materials emphasizing hands-on activities and the basics of industrial trades, construction trades, and manufacturing to support curriculum development and instructional improvement in our new middle school vocational program.
  • Use research-based methods to develop engaging lessons that require higher-order thinking.
  • Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep records of materials and equipment for the classroom.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Ensure students are exposed to potential career opportunities as they move on to high school.
  • Collaborate with the CTE department to align academic programs with career pathways.
  • Collaborate and support the completion of documents that align with state and national CTE requirements.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, evaluation, and promotion of CTE programs in grades 6–12.
  • Participate in District Team, department, and site team meetings, and professional learning.
  • Accommodate students with a variety of skills, abilities, and challenges.
  • Work cooperatively with staff to support a collaborative school culture.
  • Possess strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Support career awareness experiences that build social awareness, self-management, and goal-setting aligned to the Portrait of a Graduate.
