CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports, they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach almost 80,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today. Program Overview CAMBA’s comprehensive Workforce Development and Refugee Services programs annually provide over 3,800 low-income community members with employment, education, training, benefits access, financial literacy, and English language services. Position: Career Advisor Reports To: Program Manager or Supervisor I Location: 10 Snyder Ave, 4th floor, Brooklyn What The Career Advisor Does: The incumbent will be responsible for: (1) to be clients' primary coach, motivator and coordinator of program services; (2) help clients to assume full responsibility for creating the changes they want to see in their life using such tools as dialogue, inquiry, goal setting, accountability and general motivational techniques; (3) assist clients in eliminating barriers to education/employment by making referrals to appropriate services within and outside CAMBA; including the following: Maintain professional relationships and confidentiality with clients. Comply with any and all Federal, State, City and CAMBA security and privacy polices intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information. Assist clients to identify and achieve realistic goals, exploring their unique processing styles and ingrained habits/beliefs, as well as creating actionable steps to meet their goals. Partner with clients to improve areas of personal development including; executive function concerns, time-management, motivation, stress management, and decision-making Recommend and implement strategies to persuade clients to fully participate in their own education/employment placement and retention process. Conduct initial intake and assessment of clients and/or clients' families' situations and needs, including skill levels, prior work experience, employability, interests, aptitudes, support service’s needs, family and medical history, and individual development needs. Clearly communicate to clients the purpose and structure of the program, as well as expectations about benefits and responsibilities. Coach clients to achieve income, credit score and assets increase, savings goals, and debt reductions. Create and maintain client files. Actively seek documentation for retentions, education upgrades and financial counseling as proof client’s outcomes for monthly reporting. Collect and submit all documentation regarding client and contract outcomes. In collaboration with clients, prepare Individual Employment Plan for each client, identifying employment goal, interim achievement objectives, and services. Communicate with CAMBA colleagues, etc. regarding apparent barriers to client success (e.g., child daycare needs, possible health/housing issues, etc.) Understand all aspects of contract requirements and services definitions. Plan and facilitate orientations and assessments. Analyze results of education/career assessment instruments. Review results and analyses with clients. Advise clients regarding realistic career/employment goals and the education/training necessary to attain them. Administer evaluation tests and/or assessment instruments. Monitor clients' progress toward their goals through the employment retention period, and documents progress. Act as client liaison/client advocate, both within CAMBA and/or with outside organizations, regarding such matters as education, healthcare, housing, immigration issues, legal issues, etc. Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports. Facilitate group workshops/peer support groups regarding all relevant topics. Administer evaluation tests and/or assessment instruments. Monitor client progress in classroom and address negative behavior patterns (e.g., lateness). Participate in marketing/outreach/assessment activities for various programs. Represent CAMBA at community meetings and forums, as needed. Assist clients and/or their families in completing applications for government programs and in processing these applications with appropriate agencies.
