About The Position

Career Services empowers and supports Redbirds to achieve their professional goals by providing resources, experiences, and industry connections. The Career Advisor and Experiential Learning Coordinator provides career advising to students and alumni, supporting career planning, skill development, and overall readiness. This role builds and maintains employer relationships to expand internships and job opportunities, serving as a key liaison for Career Services. The advisor serves as a liaison, coordinates experiential learning initiatives, and works closely with faculty, staff, campus partners, and industry stakeholders to align programs with academic and career-based needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One (1) year of full time or part time equivalent experience advising, teaching, counseling, or working in career services. (Note: Master’s degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for 12 months of work experience)
  • Ability to guide diverse students and/or alumni through the career development process (self-assessment, career exploration, decision-making, and job search strategies)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively counsel/advise college students.
  • Thorough understanding of career development and career readiness.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of internal and external constituents.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field. Knowledge of career development theory/practice, job search strategies, employment trends, and current career resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise/counsel, plan, organize, and implement programs.
  • Experience and knowledge about careers and internships in the STEM disciplines.
  • Experience developing and conducting career development workshops, advising sessions, and student action plans.
  • Proven ability to work with administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Direct experience in career planning/development and demonstrated ability to utilize career development technology.
  • Understanding of career development theory.
  • Experience administering and interpreting career assessment instruments utilized in career decision-making, such as the Focus 2 Career Assessment and Strong Interest Inventory.
