About The Position

Performs duties relative to patient care under the direct guidance of a Registered Nurse. The Care Assistant II is responsible for phlebotomy, collecting diagnostic data and assisting nursing personnel in providing patient care in their assigned areas. Responsible to perform clerical duties, reception duties and requisition of supplies, equipment or services as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Greets, answers inquiries, directs and assist patients and visitors, takes and relays messages, assist with gifts, flowers, and mail for patients, run errands for department staff.
  • Answers telephone and operates the paging system.
  • Responsible for keeping patient records current such as admission, discharge, transfer and death.
  • Assemble and prepare appropriate charts and forms.
  • Route patient records as required.
  • Performs routine glucometer checks, including capillary draws and quality checks.
  • Performs routine duties and non-routine duties as directed by the nursing staff.
  • This may include but not be limited to: answering call lights, giving A.M. /P.M. care to patients.
  • Prepares patients for meals, assist with meals; assist with menu selection; pass nourishment and water; take and record vital signs; measure intake and outputs; collect specimens (urine, stool, and sputum); ambulate and exercise patients; reposition patients; assist patients in and out of chairs, wheelchairs, and bed.
  • Assists with restocking supplies and maintaining appropriate work environment in unit including cleaning procedures.
  • Assists with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Quality Assurance Department, or as may be required by the law.
  • Requisitions supplies, equipment, maintenance and repair services.
