Summary: Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures in the cardiovascular operating room. 4 days per week; 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM; on call weekend rotation may be 14 - 21 shift every 6 weeks CVOR experience preferred; peds or vascular experience preferred

Requirements

  • Accredited Program: Surgical Technologist (Required)
  • BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • Memorial Regional Hospital: One (1) year of Cardiac/Vascular OR experience required.
  • Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital: One (1) year of Surgical Technician experience required.
  • Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment due to high complexity cardiovascular cases and take appropriate action. Responds quickly to changes in patient condition, surgical plan and adjust instruments accordingly. Collaborates with perfusion and anesthesia. Requires working long hours, including evenings, weekends and on call shifts.

  • CVOR experience preferred
  • peds or vascular experience preferred
  • Cardiac operating room experience and congenital heart disease experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with appropriate instruments to physician during surgery.
  • Assures accountability for proper counts of instruments and supplies during surgery.
  • Maintains sterile fields to prevent site infections.
  • Assists with preparing, positioning and draping patients.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and appropriate handling, labeling, and hand off to nurse of all specimens and cultures according to MHS policy.
  • Verifies name of specimen with Physician.
  • Demonstrates proper sterile technique during procedure. Handoff to other crew members.
  • First scrub adult & pediatric complex vascular and cardiovascular procedures including transplants.
  • Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
  • Provides age and developmental appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents or adults.
  • Travels outside the OR suite to assist with placing adult & pediatric patients on ECMO or other mechanical assist device.
