About The Position

InGenesis is currently seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgical Technologist to work with our client located in San Antonio, TX. In this role, you will support surgical teams by preparing and maintaining a sterile environment, assisting with cardiothoracic procedures, and managing surgical instruments and equipment throughout the perioperative process. You will also play a critical role in patient transport, documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety and infection control standards. Requirements

  • Experience: Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years providing services as a certified Surgical Technologist (also known as OR Tech), with additional training in cardiothoracic or open-heart procedures.
  • Certifications: Must have and maintain current certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • Must have and maintain a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons in cardiothoracic procedures such as open-heart surgeries, heart valve repairs, and thoracic cases in the OR, Hybrid Vascular Suite, and Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field by performing surgical scrub, donning appropriate PPE, and setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies during procedures, and anticipate surgeon needs throughout the surgery.
  • Circulate and assist in a full range of surgical procedures, including general, orthopedic, trauma, and high-risk surgeries.
  • Transport patients to and from the operating room, ensuring safety and pre-operative readiness.
  • Document patient care activities and updates in the medical record, both manually and electronically.
  • Monitor and report patient conditions to support surgical safety and prevent complications.
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic and sterile techniques and CDC guidelines to ensure infection control.
  • Account for all instruments, sponges, and sharps during procedures and assist in tracking blood and fluid loss.
  • Assist with the setup, operation, and basic maintenance of surgical and OR equipment (e.g., microscopes, drills, defibrillators).
  • Support surgeons and anesthesia teams during complex or high-risk procedures.
  • Clean and restock the operating room post-procedure, including sterilizing instruments and replenishing supplies.
  • Train and orient new surgical staff or students on OR protocols and sterile techniques.
