About The Position

This position is for a Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant on a locum tenens basis in Flagstaff, AZ. The role involves clinical duties and call coverage in a hospital setting, specifically within the CVICU and step-down units. The coverage period is from April 23 to April 26, 2026, including orientation, day shifts, night beeper call, and 24-hour call shifts. The patient demographic includes adults and geriatrics, with an expected volume of 10-15 CVICU/step-down patients and 1-2 surgeries per day. Responsibilities include admissions, rounding, phone consults, and managing cardiothoracic surgical care, including post-op management and procedures. The facility is a 199-bed hospital with specialty backup from cardiothoracic surgeons and support from surgical and ICU teams. The EMR system used is Cerner.

Requirements

• Active AZ license required (no licensing available)
• NCCPA certification (PA) or NP certification required
• DEA required
• BLS and ACLS (AHA) certifications
• Minimum 3 years cardiothoracic surgery experience
• EVH proficiency required
• Must be comfortable in CVICU and surgical environments
• Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)
• Chest tube removal
• Temporary pacemaker removal
• IABP removal
• Arterial line placement
• Hospital Privileges Required

Responsibilities

• Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures and post-op care
• Manage CVICU and step-down patients
• Perform bedside procedures as needed
• Participate in call coverage including 24-hour shifts
• Collaborate with CT surgery team
• Maintain accurate documentation in Cerner EMR
