Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Description: The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory pharmacologic, diagnostic, and therapeutic modalities to all age groups. The practitioner provides direct patient care and works collaboratively with other team members, the physician, and the patient/family to achieve optimal outcomes. This position acts as a liaison with other clinical departments. The individual provides clinical leadership throughout the system. The incumbent has access to confidential patient information and makes decisions independently and in collaboration with other team members, directors and physicians. The Registered Respiratory Therapist works under the indirect supervision of the Respiratory Care Supervisor. Duties/Responsibilities Carries out physician orders according to protocols, best practices, and respiratory care policies. Accurate and timely completion of patient assessment involving the evaluation of cardiopulmonary function and treatment effectiveness, and patient/family education to contribute to the development and ongoing evaluation of a multidisciplinary plan of care. Accurate and timely documentation/recording and communication of patient assessment findings, treatment effectiveness and outcomes. Effective management and evaluation of critical/hazardous procedures in collaboration with other licensed health care professionals. Accurately performs diagnostic procedures and cardiac monitoring with recognition of arrhythmias. Accurately administers medications for the testing or treatment of cardiopulmonary impairment. Assists with new employee orientation and annual competency skills evaluations. Takes an active department leadership role in Quality Improvement Processes. Cardiac Exercise Physiologist The exercise physiologist is part of a multi-disciplinary team caring for patients participating in cardiac and pulmonary rehab. The exercise physiologist evaluates a patient’s cardiovascular/pulmonary function and metabolism and then designs a fitness plan that will meet the patient’s goals and/or needs, including building endurance and strength and increasing fitness and flexibility.
