About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Manager, the RRT provides direct and indirect patient care in the outpatient settings. The RRT functions as a liaison between patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Communicates with physicians, the manager and co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient’s cardiopulmonary status including results of diagnostic studies and changing symptoms. Must respond quickly and accurately to changes in patients’ condition(s) or response to treatment.

Requirements

  • Current unencumbered Respiratory Therapy licensure from the state of Oregon is required at the time of hire.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapy certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care is required at the time of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS and BLS certification is required.
  • Must obtain PALS within 6 months of hire.
  • Moderate computer skills are required, specifically using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); prior use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for documenting in patient records is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • A demonstrated ability to work well in high pressure situations is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cardiopulmonary rehab responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient’s age and disease process.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary diseases processes and the socioeconomic issues that ensue due to the disease states.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Demonstrate knowledge on exercise and exercise tolerance needs specific to the standard of care for the patient’s age and disease process.
  • Communicate with the Medical Director and manager about the patients and their treatment plans on a routine basis.
  • Perform emergent cardiopulmonary interventions considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient’s age and disease process, including emergency assisted ventilation and respiratory duties within the outpatient setting.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of AACVPR guidelines processes.
  • Performs administrative duties such as therapy documentation and charting, and charge capturing. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining equipment, performing safety checks, troubleshooting equipment, and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Familiar with Policies, Procedures, and Protocols. Care and Documentation meets current standards of practice and complies with all such guidelines.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all local, state, and federal regulations and accrediting organization standards related to the Cardiopulmonary department and, as appropriate, to each facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested to support the overall needs of the department, and in accordance with Curry Health Network’s Mission, Vision and Shared Values.
