As an Exercise Physiologist, you will develop individualized exercise prescriptions and supervise exercise progression for patients with cardiovascular disease in a cardiac rehabilitation setting. In this role, you will provide direct patient care to individuals recovering from open heart surgery and percutaneous coronary interventions, supporting them through both acute and outpatient phases of recovery. You will collaborate across a multi-site organization to manage complex patients who have undergone advanced cardiac procedures, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care throughout their rehabilitation. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working rotating shifts between 6:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with weekend availability. Caregivers in this role will cover both Mercy and North Canton locations. A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in exercise-related field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.
  • Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.
  • Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Experience with Inpatient Care (Post-Surgery Patients, Monitoring Vitals, etc.)
  • Working Knowledge of EKG Rhythms

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
  • Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.
  • Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.
  • Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.
  • Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.
  • Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
  • Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.
