About The Position

The position of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Assistant assists the Exercise Physiologist in preparing patients for and performing Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing. The position is responsible for ensuring efficient flow of patients through the health care setting by facilitating testing of patients in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service; contributes to patient care by preparing patient for testing, maintaining patient records, organizing testing rooms, maintaining supply/equipment inventory, and/or assisting exercise physiologists, Pulmonary Function Techs and support staff. This position will also serve as a backup for certain Pulmonary Function Tests such as Bedside Spirometry.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 Days
  • Fluent English - Read, write and speak English fluently
  • Proficiency in computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office
  • Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Patient Preparation, Bedside Spirometry

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree Exercise Physiology
  • Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science
  • Experience in cardiopulmonary exercise testing
  • Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP) - American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient charts for testing – includes clinical history and data collection forms
  • Calibrates equipment prior to testing to ensure accurate data collection
  • Assists with conducting exercise tests; including the monitoring of heart rates and ECG rhythm, blood pressures, perceived exertion levels, and patient signs and symptoms during rest, exercise and recovery per department policy.
  • Assists in interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise testing results under the supervision of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Physiologist.
  • Ensures proper patient setup for testing and adjusts sensors as needed throughout testing.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean testing lab including exercise and testing equipment.
  • Performs bedside spirometry pulmonary function tests, calibrates and maintains equipment to manufacturer and department standards
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Skills and duties may vary dependent upon your department or unit. Other duties may be assigned as required.
