About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking a skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their compassionate Cardiology team. This role involves providing nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. Responsibilities include reporting patient signalment, problem lists, and plans during appointments and transfers, understanding medication classifications, side effects, and therapeutic responses, and administering medications. The assistant will also perform physical exams, accurately count vital signs, possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment, and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications. Staying current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrating proficiency in designated roles is also expected. Requirements

  • Applicants must possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during appointments and transfers.
  • Understand classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
