About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking a skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their compassionate Cardiology team. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients according to hospital standards and core values. Key duties include reporting patient signalment, problem lists, and treatment plans during appointments and transfers, understanding the classification and side effects of commonly used medications, and administering them appropriately. The assistant will also perform physical exams, accurately record vital signs, and possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment to assist with patients classified as ASA I or II. Staying current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrating proficiency in assigned roles is also expected. Requirements

  • Skilled Veterinary Assistant
  • Possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during appointments and transfers.
  • Understand classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
