About The Position

UPMC is hiring a Full-Time Cardiology Technician to support the Cardiac Processing Unit at UPMC Harrisburg. The role offers a Monday through Friday schedule with potential shifts including 6:00am-4:30pm, 8:00am-6:30pm, or 9:00am-7:30pm, adjusted as needed for staffing. The position does not require working holidays, weekends, or being on-call. Candidates with experience as a Patient Care Technician Specialist or in a high acuity environment are encouraged to apply. Requirements

H.S. Diploma or equivalent required
2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Cardiovascular Technician, Patient Care Technician, EMT, LPN or a Paramedic is required.
Knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology of the heart.
Knowledge of Cardiac Patients and procedures
Ability to think and act independently with critical thinking skills.
Current BLS Certification
Basic arrythmia course and pass written exam with 80% score or higher.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Responsibilities

Adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information. Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.
Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.
Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner.
Completes department clerical functions as needed, such as answering the phone and checking in patients in EPIC.
Performs the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities such as blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I & O, specimen collections, foley care, and activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning), telemetry monitor application/reapplication
Responsible for stocking of patient care rooms and stocking cart.
Also responsible for more advanced care such as phlebotomy, 12 lead ekg, foley catheter insertion and removal, bladder scan, ACT point of care testing, IV catheter insertion and removal, arterial and venous sheath removal with hemostasis.
Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
Answers call bells/lights.
Aids in moving patients to overnight rooms.
Performs other assigned duties.
