About The Position

Performs non-invasive cardiac and neurological testing to aid in the diagnosis of cardiac and neurological disorders.  Diagnostic testing includes, at a minimum, 12 Lead EKG, Holter and Event Monitoring and Electroencephalogram (EEG). In addition, assists physicians, or other licensed HCP in performing cardiac stress tests, nuclear stress tests and stress echocardiograms (where applicable by department need). All testing provided will be performed on inpatients and outpatients of all ages.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Medical Terminology
  • Basic Math and Keyboard Proficiency
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and office equipment
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance

  • One (1) year of experience in a patient care or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts patient interview and identifies any contraindications to exercise or pharmacological stress testing.
  • Educates patient on sequence of events of stress testing.
  • Prepares patient for stress testing ensuring appropriate placement of electrodes and quality tracing.
  • Sensitively monitors patients’ physical/emotional response to stress testing and documents accordingly.
  • Appropriately compiles test documentation in PAC’s system per protocol and assigns to a reading physician to ensure timely reporting of results.
  • Performs 12 Lead EKG’s
  • Accurately and efficiently completes placement of Event and Holter monitor and ensures patients are registered in outside company portal appropriately.
  • Assists with scanning of 24/48 hour Holter monitors with knowledge of abnormal cardiac rhythms and notification to a cardiologist with life threatening arrhythmias.
  • Manager EKG’s performed in all areas and Event/Holter monitor reports in PAC’s system ensuring timely assignment to a reading physician to obtain timely reporting.
  • Performs the technical aspects of the test as outlined in the EEG policy.
  • Performs all data entry necessary to constitute a complete study, properly identifying study results and notifying the interpreting neurologist of abnormal findings.
  • Upon completion of the EEG, ensure the EEG is on the server to be read and notify the interpreting neurologist when ready for the interpretation.
  • Perform daily follow up to ensure all EEG’s from previous dates have been interpreted and results are in the patient’s EMR.
  • Works collaboratively with other technicians and nurses to see that all other aspects of the tests are done completely and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a sufficient level of supplies in all testing areas. Obtains necessary equipment/supplies from other areas as needed.
  • Cleans and maintains all equipment used to provide safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Ensures all testing is charged for as performed.
  • Performs other clerical duties as assigned including work in departments outside their home department.
  • Assists outpatient staff in Cardiac Rehab as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
