General Summary: Performs responsibilities of a Senior Cardiac Sonographer while acting as a leader and resource for other sonographers at Lurie Children’s and off-site facilities. Ensures quality standards are met and promotes continuous quality improvement. Maintains current knowledge of technology, equipment, and department policies. Educates and evaluates staff to department policies, procedures, and maintains competencies. Strong awareness of daily operations, workflow processes, and scheduling trends. Ensures appropriate staff scheduling and clinic coverage. Maintains inventory and orders supplies within budgetary guidelines. Coordinates student clinical rotations, on-boarding process, and training of cardiac sonographers.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology program.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of echocardiography.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • ARDMS registered in pediatric echo required.
  • Strong communication/listening skills, bilingual (Spanish) helpful.
  • Strong leadership skill required to delegate tasks as needed.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate decisions on a daily basis.
  • Must work well under pressure and in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates basic computer skills with Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Ability to travel to outreach sites.

Responsibilities

  • Performs job duties of senior cardiac sonographer, as needed, and described in Cardiac Sonographer Sr. job responsibilities, including satellite clinic coverage and on call duties in accordance with the on-call policy.
  • Facilitates team development and growth in coordination with other teams by acting as the liaison between each department
  • Responsible for staff scheduling at Lurie, Clark/Deming, and all outreach locations, including assigning daily sonographer tasks at Lurie.
  • Collaborates with the Echo Lab Coordinator to help maintain the daily echo schedule, daily staff assignments and approves patient add-ons.
  • Participate in daily Echo Lab and clinic huddles, aides with TEE set-up, coordinate sedated echoes, and ensure all appropriate schedules are updated (Cath, CV surgery, etc.). Checks EPIC and Syngo daily to ensure all technical results are entered accurately and in timely manner to ensure maximum reimbursement.
  • Assures billing is timely and accurate
  • Evaluates inventory needs and orders supplies within budgetary guidelines Manages and edits echo template schedules as needed.
  • Participates in the interview process, selection of new employees, orientation, on-boarding, and training of new hires.
  • Supervises and teaches other sonographers, pediatric cardiology fellows, and ultrasound students. Participates in tasks related to IAC accreditation and meetings, including overseeing QI tasks, ensuring quality control procedures are performed, and working with management to develop and implement cardiology procedures and processes in accordance with department standards, regulatory agencies, and certifying organizations.
  • Works closely with HTM department to troubleshoot equipment issues, monitors, and tracks all ultrasound probe maintenance (TEE, TTE), and facilitates use of equipment for periodic maintenance and upgrades.
  • Facilitates delivery of echo equipment to various outreach locations for clinic.
  • Acts as back-up to Tele-Echo Cardiology Associate, including processing all tele-echo studies, preparing tele-echo reports for physician interpretation and being proficient with lifeIMAGE.
