About The Position

Under general supervision, the Cardiac Monitoring Tech follows established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines within the Central Monitoring Unit. This role is responsible for continuously monitoring and accurately identifying basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias, and lethal arrhythmias. The tech reports these findings to appropriate personnel and ensures rhythm documentation and labeling adhere to TGH policy. Additionally, the position involves performing customer service, receptionist, and clerical/secretarial activities, serving as a communication resource for patients, visitors, family, and healthcare team members, and triaging communication priorities. Duties include answering telephones and patient intercom systems, alerting nursing staff to patient and family concerns, and ordering supplies. The role has dual responsibilities that will not be performed simultaneously but can flex between roles based on organizational needs. The tech is also responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Successful completion of EKG certification program or previous experience as a Monitor Technician in an acute care hospital and successful completion of a competency assessment required
  • Ability to accurately interpret rhythm strips and recognize changes required
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Can be a licensed Paramedic in Florida or a nationally recognized Paramedic

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and identifying basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias and lethal arrhythmias
  • Reporting these findings to the appropriate personnel
  • Rhythm documentation and labeling per TGH policy
  • Performs customer service, receptionist and clerical/secretarial activities
  • Serves as a communication resource for patients, visitors, family, and health care team members with the ability to triage communication priorities
  • Answers the telephone and patient intercom system
  • Alerts nursing staff to patient and family concerns and other calls
  • Orders supplies and stock items as required
  • Performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital
