About The Position

The UPMC Heat and Vascular Insititute is hiring a full-time Cardiac Device Specialist to join their Electrophysiology Team. This is a Monday-Friday, daylight position- no weekends or on-call shifts. This position does require travel to multiple HVI locations. This could be your chance to join the exciting and dynamic field of Cardiac device management with the UPMC HVI Electrophysiology team! Purpose: Under the general direction of the Electrophysiology Clinical Director and according to established standards and procedures, will assist senior staff with the monitoring, interrogation and reprogramming of pacemaker and automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator (AICD) devices at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI). Incumbent will be involved in the care of patients seen in person or monitored remotely at a designated UPMC facility. Will assist providers, nurses, and other clinical staff by providing technical support in the set-up, operation, and emergency operation of interrogation equipment. Will assist in the initial data collection and analysis for preliminary report generation, enter data in the electronic medical record, utilize the electronic medical record as required by the department, and alert providers to clinically urgent issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or Biomedical Engineering is preferred OR A certificate of completion from an approved cardiac device technical school that provides a formal curriculum of education and training in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, cardiac resynchronization therapy and electrophysiology OR A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of cardiac pacing or electrophysiology in the ambulatory (outpatient) setting may be substituted for the formal education training program.
  • Clearances and certification - Act 31, Act 32, BLS as required by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Interrogate, interpret, and re-program cardiac devices with physician supervision.
  • Troubleshoot critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding device status and accurately document device analysis in the electronic medical record and device databases for review.
  • Collaborate with care team to educate patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
  • Performs 12-Lead EKGs, as needed.
  • Serve as resource to physicians, providers, and other practice employees regarding device patients and services.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure good working condition and notify appropriate personnel of problem areas or patient safety issues.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
