About The Position

The Cardiac Device RN has a specialized skill set and will provide both technical and clinical component to ensure the patient care meets established procedures and quality standards in the area of Electrophysiology relative to CIED's (Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices). The Device RN will be independently accountable for the management and coordination of care of patients with devices and will partner with the EP team, Interventional Cardiologists, Heart Failure team and Structural Heart as well as other staff members.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse School of Nursing
  • Minimum Associate Nursing Degree, ADN
  • Minimum of two years experience in acute/critical care setting required
  • Cardiology/Cardiac experience required, could include multiple cardiac settings- EP Lab, Cardiac Cath Lab or ICU
  • Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the respective jurisdiction per state requirements. Nurses are governed by their state board of nursing and work under their own individual license.
  • Current BLS certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Device Remote Monitoring Specialist (CDRMS) from International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) preferred
  • Certification by IBHRE within 2 years of employment is strongly preferred and encouraged

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the physician performs in-clinic and remote interrogation, evaluation, reprogramming of all CIED's (pacemakers, ICD's, ILR's and cardiac resynchronization devices) all manufacturers.
  • In-depth understanding and application of the technical aspects of cardiac device function to specific patient care is expected, including identifying arrhythmias, assessing symptoms, reviewing diagnostics.
  • Manages and coordinates the device clinic including wound assessment and care and post-operative teaching.
  • Monitor patients, evaluating and programming CIED's following established clinic protocols.
  • Analyze clinical data and compose written CIED management summaries, clinic visit notes, and letters.
  • Basic understanding of device diagnostics including identifying arrhythmias, assessing correlating symptoms, reviewing patient's medical history and medications.
  • A thorough clinical understanding of heart failure diagnostics, symptoms and treatment options is required for further evaluation of CIED data for clinic correlation.
  • Direct interviews with patient, family to obtain past medical and social past medical history to facilitate all aspects of disease management, diagnostic and device management follow up.
  • Problem solve device function, settings, arrhythmia episodes, and interventions. Work closely with EP team and other multidisciplinary teams, ensuring quality CIED follow up care.
  • Reviews remote device interrogations, interpretation, alert review and escalates any actionable items to doctors, NP or other pertinent allied health professionals.
  • Collaborates with industry representatives (Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Abbott, and Biotronik) involving direct patient care, product education, and as clinic resource.
  • Troubleshoots critical CIED or lead issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.
  • Independent MRI and perioperative device management planning and programming.
  • Participates in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication. Promote a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships.
  • Educates patient and family on signs and symptoms that require a follow up telephone call or triage RN or MD Clinic visit.
  • Must read and understand and adhere to all Physician Services policies and procedures.
  • Practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct philosophy and Mission and Values Statement.
  • Adheres to established rules, ethical standards, regulations and laws of the profession.
  • Performs other related job functions as assigned
