About The Position

Join a 590-bed Level I Trauma Center in Kansas City, Missouri, recognized as a regional healthcare leader with comprehensive cardiac and neuroscience programs. This Cardiac Care RN role provides specialized care for patients recovering from open heart surgeries, cardiac catheterizations with stent placement, ablations, pacemaker/AICD implantations, and cardiovascular procedures in a comprehensive stroke/STEMI facility. The unit maintains excellent nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3 to 1:5 (never more than 5 patients) in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment serving diverse populations. The facility features advanced programs including the Grossman Burn Center, Sarah Cannon Cancer Care, and Neuroscience Institute supported by over 700 physicians across 29 specialties. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Missouri RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
  • Minimum 1 year of acute care Cardiac Care RN experience or similar specialty experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required within 6 months of hire
  • Basic computer skills and electronic health record proficiency
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous clinical experience in cardiovascular nursing, telemetry, or progressive care
  • ACLS certification at hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for cardiac patients recovering from open heart surgeries, interventional cardiology procedures, electrophysiology treatments, and cardiovascular surgeries.
  • Monitor and assess patients with cardiac conditions including post-CABG, valve replacements, stent placements, ablations, and pacemaker/AICD implantations.
  • Coordinate patient care and assume individual responsibility and accountability for provision of nursing care under direction of unit leadership.
  • Care for stroke and STEMI patients in a comprehensive cardiovascular facility with advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
  • Deliver nursing care in accordance with hospital policies, Missouri Nursing Practice Acts, and ANA Standards of Practice.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and specialized staff to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge in caring for critically ill cardiac patients while problem-solving and finding solutions in challenging situations.
  • Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment to respond to changing patient conditions and emergent cardiac events.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide patient and family education appropriate to cardiac conditions, recovery expectations, and post-discharge care needs.
