About The Position

The Captive Insurance Underwriting Technician is responsible for providing technical and administrative underwriting support for Envision’s captive insurance programs, ensuring effective preparation of new and renewal business documents, and providing outstanding service in the maintenance of accounts.

Requirements

  • 2 – 4 years of previous commercial or captive insurance, or related experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related discipline preferred
  • CIC, INS, CPCU, ACI, or other related insurance designation(s) preferred
  • Possession of, or the ability to immediately attain, a P&C License as required by state law
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to successfully meet established deadlines
  • Ability to make effective decisions based on rules, regulations, company guidelines, and established procedures
  • Strong PC skills, with a focus on the Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) as well as any agency management system(s)
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex instructions, prepare and maintain complex records and files
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, changing priority environment
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the initiative to prioritize and be self-directed
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both colleagues and managers, across all levels

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage captive program renewal timelines including initiating renewal submission requests from brokers; proactively tracking and reviewing incoming renewal submissions, and ensuring underwriting data is complete and follow up if needed; prepare renewal file(s) for peer and fronting company underwriter review; send renewal communications such as indications, requests to bind to brokers as directed; update policies in epic
  • Effectively and accurately maintain account contacts in Epic
  • Prepare captive program data for shareholder meeting materials, including, but not limited to, collecting presentations from third-party service providers, preparing captive performance data (loss ratios, spread of premium, geographical spread of members graphs)
  • Manage premium audit process with fronting carrier, brokers and members ensuring premium audits issued by fronting carrier are accurate and if so, communicate results to brokers; resolve any audit disputes
  • Prepare various business documents as directed
  • Manage accounts receivable including downloading schedule of installments from Epic for each captive member renewal and sending to respective brokers and continually reviewing the receivables report in Epic and following up with broker invoices 30+ days past due
  • Serve as the Envision representative on third-party TPA claim reviews, reporting any concerns noted
  • Adhere to corporate customer service standards, including but not limited to submission acknowledgement and specific broker requests; develop client relationships by providing exceptional customer service
  • Adhere to technician authority and captive underwriting rules, referring all matters outside of their authority to the appropriate person
  • Review mail, correspondence, records, and reports, processing all transactions based on established rules and procedures
  • Compile reports, maintain files and logs, in an orderly manner consistent with company guidelines
  • Review all activities relating to the public, customers, and companies to avoid issues involving potential errors and omissions
  • Participate in seminars and other training to maintain required licenses and for knowledge and skill development
