Job Summary: Location: Methodist Fremont Health Address: 450 E 23rd St. - Fremont, NE Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Performs daily operations of Cancer Registry and provides leadership of the Cancer Program and Cancer Program Services in compliance with the Commission on Cancer Standards for an Approved Cancer Program and State Regulations of the Nebraska Cancer Registry.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent general educational development (G.E.D.) may include specialized or vocational courses required.
  • Formal training program after high school.
  • Oncology Data Specialist-Certified (ODS-C) certification required.
  • Knowledge of cancer registry software and Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Analytical skills, effective communication (written and verbal) with physicians, staff and outside agencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology and statistics preferred.
  • Knowledge of cancer registry principles, operational procedures and quality assurance methods preferred.
  • Knowledge of American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of Metric cancer registry software, Mosaic radiation oncology software and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage cancer patient database by examining medical and pathology records.
  • Create abstracts of medical records by translating medical terminology into standardized codes to identify patients diagnosis, stage of disease, and treatment information.
  • Create monthly follow-up letters for patients and update abstracts to ensure follow-rates are within requirements set by Commission on Cancer standards.
  • Compile reports using registry data of statistical or narrative information on request from medical staff, researchers and administrative staff according to established policies and procedures.
  • Send monthly data files to the State of Nebraska and to the rapid quality reporting system (RQRS).
  • Annually submit cases to National Cancer Data Base in accordance with annual call for data.
  • Ensure facility participates in special studies requested by Commission on Cancer.
  • Coordinate quarterly Cancer Committee meeting. Includes and not limited to scheduling, creating an agenda and documenting minutes.
  • Ensure participation requirements set by the Commission on cancer are met.
  • Collaborate efforts of physicians, hospital staff, cancer committee and other cancer related resources to meet or exceed Commission on Cancer (COC) standards in preparation of maintaining American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditation. Includes maintaining the survey application throughout the year.
  • Participates in a local or state cancer related educational meeting annually and once attend a regional or national cancer related meeting once during the 3 year survey cycles.
  • American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) Member/Participant of committees (CCC, BPL, Cancer Work Group, etc.).
  • Assists with Survey Application Record (SAR) in preparation of accreditation surveys. Coordinates to assure standards are met.
  • Participates in Special Studies Involvement with Tumor Board conferences, and case finding activities.
  • Accurately records treatment information discussed at conferences, and post-conference notifications.
  • Assists with case finding activities.
  • Prepares patient information for conference.
