Job Summary The Cancer Registrar is responsible for collecting, abstracting, maintaining, and reporting cancer-related health information for research, quality assurance, accreditation, and facility planning. This role ensures accurate oncology data reporting in compliance with the American College of Surgeons’ Cancer Program, Arkansas Central Cancer Registry, and hospital Cancer Committee requirements.

Requirements

  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Typing speed of 60–70 words per minute
  • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong English communication skills

  • Experience in cancer registry operations
  • Familiarity with state cancer registry reporting
  • Cancer Committee reporting experience

Responsibilities

  • Identify, abstract, code, and stage all new cancer cases using appropriate classification and staging systems
  • Report new cancer cases to the Arkansas Central Cancer Registry within six months of diagnosis
  • Maintain and manage the hospital cancer registry database with accuracy and consistency
  • Conduct long-term patient follow-up, maintaining at least a 90% successful follow-up rate
  • Perform quality control activities, including re-abstracting 10% of cases and resolving data edit errors
  • Prepare and present registry reports for quarterly Cancer Committee meetings
  • Schedule and attend Cancer Committee meetings; prepare agendas and minutes
  • Coordinate and compile the annual cancer program report
  • Respond to inquiries related to cancer registry data
  • Assist with additional Health Information Management functions as needed
