About The Position

This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of campus safety and security programs and services. Supervises the day-to-day operations of the security departments while protecting individuals on campus property and maintaining the security of campus buildings, facilities, parking lots, walkways, and grounds of the College locations, ensuring the security and safety of property and persons; and to perform related duties as assigned. The position also supervises and coordinates the Student Concierge program.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required with experience in criminal justice or related area; valid WI Driver's license; valid WI licensure where applicable.
  • At least 5 years of security or law enforcement experience.
  • Familiar with modern security practices and laws as they relate to higher education.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, as well as video camera and door access control software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft word

  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrated through reports, forms, memos.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality in working with sensitive information.
  • Organized and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.

Nice To Haves

  • Security experience in higher education and/or healthcare setting desirable.
  • Basic first aid skills desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Abides by the college's mission, vision, values, and purposes.
  • Acts as first responder to all campus emergencies, medical and criminal, that could potentially be hazardous and/or life threatening.
  • Stays current on the latest state and federal security requirements and recommendations for higher education.
  • Enforces campus policies and procedures related to safety and security.
  • Leads and manages the campus safety and security and student concierge teams including hiring, training, and directing, and providing supervision.
  • Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with the College community. Provides excellent customer focused service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive public safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Keeps detailed logs of security incidents and activities.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal laws with respect to educational reporting requirements, including the Clery Act, and Title IX.
  • Collaborates with local officials to address matters of mutual concern. Acts as a liaison for the College with local law enforcement.
  • Develops departmental budget needs and coordinates with direct supervisor.
  • Completes regular patrols of the campus facilities noting unusual occurrences. Reports maintenance issues or hazardous conditions to relevant parties.
  • Conducts student and employee safety training, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and disaster preparedness in conjunction with the Building and Grounds Technician.
  • Responds to requests for routine and emergency medical assistance and renders first aid and/or CPR/AED when necessary.
  • Locks building as scheduled and ensures all windows and doors are secured.
  • Ensures inside and outside lights are turned on/off as required.
  • Ensures only authorized persons are admitted to the campus while on duty. Directs visitors as necessary.
  • Observes area weather conditions on or approaching campus and reports dangerous or unusual weather-related activity to management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes a culture of safety.
  • Participates in the College wide efforts related to continuous quality improvement.
  • Promotes effective and positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Assists with a variety of projects as delegated or as appropriate to the position.
  • Serves as a member of college committees
