About The Position

REAL Journey Academies (RJA) is a non-profit charter school management organization designed to significantly increase college entrance and graduation rates for underserved students in the Inland Empire. We aim to impact and revitalize communities through the development of education and other supportive partnerships. Job Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Director of School Safety, the Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly, and secure school environment. This position provides visible campus supervision, monitors student behavior, enforces school rules and RJA policies, responds to safety incidents and emergencies, and supports school operations to ensure the protection of students, staff, visitors, and school property.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in school security, campus supervision, or a related public safety field is preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license and proof of insurability.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, families, and external agencies.
  • Strong communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in stressful or emergency situations.
  • SB 1626 Training Requirements: In accordance with California Education Code section 38001.5 and Senate Bill 1626, Security Officers are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of school security training approved by the California Department of Education. Documentation of training completion shall be maintained by RJA.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned school campuses, buildings, parking lots, and surrounding areas before, during, and after school hours to ensure campus safety and security.
  • Maintain a highly visible security presence to deter unsafe behavior, vandalism, trespassing, and disorderly conduct.
  • Monitor and supervise student behavior during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, nutrition/lunch periods, and school-sponsored activities.
  • Enforce school rules, regulations, and RJA policies in a fair, consistent, and respectful manner.
  • Identify, challenge, and control the presence of non-students on campus; enforce visitor sign-in and identification procedures.
  • Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment; respond promptly to radio calls and requests for assistance.
  • Respond to incidents involving student misconduct, conflicts, vandalism, theft, or disturbances and promptly notify administration.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely written incident and activity reports.
  • Assist administrators and school safety staff during emergencies, including lockdowns, evacuations, medical incidents, and other critical events.
  • Provide security support for extracurricular activities such as athletic events, dances, and performances, as assigned.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners while serving as a role model for appropriate behavior.
