The Campus Safety, Sustainability and Transport department has an outstanding opportunity for a Campus Safety Officer (Campus Security Officer (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv)) to join their team. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Campus Security Officer communicates and interacts effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff and student groups to promote an inclusive campus community culture and participates in outreach and communication efforts. Protect life and property, enforce and apply campus regulations and rules, local, state, and federal laws, maintain order, and prevent crime. Patrol and inspect buildings and grounds at all times (when not performing other work-related duties) by foot, bicycle, or vehicle including multiple building locations and a student apartment complex ensuring that exterior and perimeter security doors are closed and locked, respond to alarms. Admit staff, faculty, and students to classrooms, offices, etc. Identify, report, and follow up on building maintenance security problems. Receive and conduct preliminary inquiries into complaints of criminal activity; prepare and distribute incident reports; gather evidence; locate witnesses; protect crime scenes until relieved by proper authorities, and appear in court as required. Operate public safety equipment including but not limited to; communications, electronic security systems, fire command systems, emergency medical equipment, self-defense weapons (baton and pepper spray) and other equipment related to life-safety and security currently in use by the Campus Safety Department. Assist other Emergency Services (Police, Fire) and administer first aid where applicable. Perform campus traffic activities, including directing traffic. Teach workshops and classes to the campus community on violence prevention and other possible topics. Communicate effectively with others both verbally and in written form. Provide customer service in a friendly, courteous and professional manner with strong focus on customer satisfaction. Exhibit professionalism and good judgment in daily interactions with students, faculty, staff and visitors, and be a positive representative of the campus administration. Initiate and complete reports using a computerized reporting system when assigned; maintain logs of activities, communicate with departmental supervisors via email. Answer phone calls, respond to emails, assist walk-in customers, monitor emergency alert systems; perform duties associated with access control including but not limited to; using access control software, creating customer profiles and adding/removing clearances to access cards, troubleshooting access concerns. Perform other related duties as assigned.
