About The Position

Campus Recreation is looking for self-motivated team players that enjoy spending time at the REC and could envision themselves working to make improvements in the services that campus recreation provides. Summer REC employees receive free gear rental when available. The Campus Recreation Assistant is responsible for monitoring facility access and ensuring the safe usage of the REC Center. This is a mid-level entry position that requires experience with cash handling. Knowledge of customer service, recreation, and wellness. First Aid and Adult CPR certification is preferred, or a willingness to obtain this certification. Responsible for renting REC Center outdoor equipment, monitoring the entrance and exit, checking in guests and members, and maintaining a clean, friendly environment. Other responsibilities may include cardio/weight room inspection and cleaning, event set-up, and display creation. We are looking for self-motivated team players that enjoy spending time at the REC Center and taking advantage of its diverse facility offerings. Applicants should be familiar with the services campus recreation provides. Staff will assist with the opening and closing of the REC Center. We are looking for two employees to share summer shifts of 10:45am to 3:30pm and 3:30pm to 8:00pm, Monday through Sunday. Due to campus and room rentals some hours might occur outside of our standard operating hours above. The Summer rate is $15.57/hr. This position can easily transfer to the academic year if a positive employment record is maintained. The successful candidate must have excellent customer service skills and the desire to work with a diverse public. Must have good attention to detail and cash handling experience. Experience with fitness and wellness preferred.

Requirements

  • Must have good attention to detail and cash handling experience.
  • Requires current certification or willingness to obtain certification in Basic First Aid and Adult CPR (preferred).
  • Point of sales experience required.
  • To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must: a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee. d. Students enrolled in nontraditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid and Adult CPR certification is preferred, or a willingness to obtain this certification.
  • One to three years of customer service and/or recreation experience preferred.
  • Experience with fitness and wellness preferred.
