About The Position

Under the supervision of the President and Principal, the Campus Minister helps create an environment which encourages and guides all members to contribute to the Catholic identity of the Messmer High School and the formation of a faith community which responds to the spiritual needs of the students, teachers, staff, and parents. In collaboration with the administration, faculty, and staff, parents/guardians, and students, the Campus Minister brings to life a school community rich in charism, spiritual growth, prayer, sacramental experiences, and preparation of leaders in service for the Church and society. Specific Responsibilities: The job description is illustrative and not a complete itemization of all duties and responsibilities of the job.

Requirements

  • Practicing member of the Catholic community with an active sacramental and faith-life and in good-standing with a local parish.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in youth ministry and/or campus ministry
  • Academic background in Theology or Religious Studies
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • master’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Forming a Faith Community Facilitates an atmosphere of Christian hospitality where all feel welcome, based on Catholic faith traditions and rituals.
  • Communicates regularly with the administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians regarding campus ministry activities, programs, and projects.
  • Works collaboratively with the administration to develop Catholic faith-centered programs that involve alumni, benefactors, and parents.
  • Works collaboratively with the parish leadership of the Milwaukee Catholic parishes identified by the President, integrating ministries to benefit our students and families in our schools and the parish.
  • Spiritual Growth Provides opportunities for others to deepen their relationship with Christ.
  • Organizes, plans, and implements an effective retreat program for students, faculty, parents/guardians, and staff that contributes to community building, faith development, evangelization, and leadership enrichment.
  • Prayer and Sacramental experiences Offers a variety of prayer experiences, both personal, communal, and seasonal.
  • Provides opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to celebrate the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation, including penance services during Advent and Lent.
  • Coordinates liturgical celebrations, including monthly Catholic Masses with local parish priests.
  • Coordinates weekly prayer services and prepares students to assist in leading the service.
  • Preparation of Leaders Encourages students to discern the vocation for which God has created them.
  • Provides opportunities for students to lead various campus ministry activities, preparing them for leadership roles after graduation.
  • Serves as an effective instructor for a limited classroom teaching load in the Theology Department (.16 FTE or .08 FTE depending on enrollment needs).
  • Is visible and present at school and at school activities
  • Maintains a close relationship with pastors and youth leaders in neighboring parishes.
  • Attends to own personal, professional, and spiritual development.
  • Participates with the Theology Department in meetings and professional growth.
  • Stays abreast of current developments in the area of school/campus ministry.
  • Trains, prepares, and assigns student altar servers and lectors for all liturgies.
  • Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the President or Principal.
