About The Position

The Campus Minister serves the spiritual needs of the university community through a student-centered and ecumenical approach reflecting the values of Spalding University and its Catholic identity. The Campus Minister serves as both a spiritual leader and pastoral advisor to students, faculty, and staff, planning and executing programs that foster spiritual growth, community, and service grounded in Catholic tradition. The Campus Minister will support the overall goals of the Office of Student Affairs by providing interaction and engagement with students through inclusive program offerings catering to a diverse student body of various viewpoints and beliefs. In addition to developing student ministry experiences, the Campus Minister serves as a campus-designated confidential resource for students seeking spiritual guidance and support.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead worship services, including weekly Mass
  • Organize prayer meetings, Bible study groups, and other prayer opportunities
  • Facilitate access to the sacraments and Catholic spiritual practices
  • Create welcoming worship experiences that honor Catholic tradition while inviting participation from the broader community
  • Provide spiritual guidance, pastoral support, and mentorship to all members of the campus community
  • Offer confidential spiritual counseling to individuals facing personal or spiritual challenges
  • Make appropriate referrals to professional resources when needed (e.g., mental health services, academic support)
  • Serve as a bridge between students' spiritual lives and their overall wellbeing
  • Organize and facilitate ministry and faith-based activities and events reflecting Catholic Social Teaching
  • Lead various types of retreats to meet the needs of the diverse community
  • Coordinate mission trips and social justice activities in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs
  • Plan and execute social events that build community and foster spiritual connection
  • Represent campus ministry at campus events
  • Recruit, train, and mentor student leaders to help run ministry activities and build a vibrant faith community
  • Develop student ministry experiences that encourage spiritual growth and leadership skills
  • Create opportunities for students to take ownership of campus ministry initiatives
  • Support students in discerning their vocations and spiritual gifts
  • Develop and implement plans for community outreach that reflect Catholic Social Teaching
  • Foster relationships with local churches, parishes, and Catholic organizations
  • Promote interfaith dialogue and collaboration while maintaining Catholic identity
  • Represent Spalding University at appropriate professional organizations and Archdiocesan events
  • Manage all reservations, advertising, and marketing for campus ministry events
  • Develop and manage campus ministry budget in collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement
  • Coordinate volunteers and maintain program records
  • Assess the effectiveness of programs and adapt to meet evolving community needs
