About The Position

The National Western Center (NWC) is a reimagined 250-acre campus in Denver, Colorado with a vision to be the global destination for food and agricultural discovery. It is the new home of the National Western Stock Show and Colorado State University’s Spur campus. But the future National Western Center isn’t just new buildings. It’s a destination unto itself. It’s a mission-oriented place that will be lively and active all year round — with new events and experiences around every corner. The opportunity: NWC is in search of a Campus Groundkeeper. This position maintains the appearance and health of outdoor spaces on campus. This includes mowing lawns, trimming, planting, maintaining trees and flowers, weeding and removing litter. This also works with irrigation, snow and ice removal when needed. This position will work with partners as needed and departments as well to make sure things are running smoothly and objectives established by the COO. This is a multifaceted job with a broad spectrum of opportunities for professional development. You’ll join a small, nimble, collaborative, creative, and entrepreneurial team as we accelerate growth of a new events hub and innovation campus in Denver, Colorado. Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors for long periods in outdoor weather.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work with community, staff, partners and students with programs may be required.
  • Strong passion towards sustainability, soil health and education of best practices.
  • Experience in Arena, Convention, Stadium is helpful.
  • This role is physically demanding, requiring standing, walking, lifting, bending for long periods of time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High EQ and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, seeding, watering planters and lawns.
  • Planting and winterizing pots around campus.
  • Trimming, pruning, removal of trees and shrubs and assist with replanting program.
  • Planting flowers, shrubs, and maintaining pollinator and other flower beds.
  • Maintaining and operating irrigation systems to ensure adequate watering of plants and lawns at the correct times in the year while practicing sustainable methods.
  • Hanging and set up along with striking of holiday lighting and decorations during the year.
  • Snow and ice removal plan for campus during the year and using equipment.
  • Preform minor repairs on grounds equipment, supervise any large contracted projects on campus.
  • Assist with pest control plan in outdoor areas.
  • Tracking repair times and down times of items to report on.
