About The Position

The mission of the Campus Ambassador program is: “To create an inviting first impression of the Georgia State campus by providing excellent customer service and wayfinding to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. As the eyes and ears for our safety and facilities teams, we strive to be the first to identify and assist with low-level risks, hazards, and public nuisances that diminish Georgia State’s campus experience.” Campus Ambassadors help GSUPD advance its goal of maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-informed campus community while promoting a culture of community-oriented safety and engagement. Campus Ambassadors enhance campus safety, awareness, and accessibility by providing guidance, information, and support to the campus community while acting as proactive liaisons for safety and facilities teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree OR high school diploma or GED and four years of customer service, administrative or office experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to understand and accurately apply laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Must be able to operate efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Positions within this classification are required to lift to 30 lbs. and bend, stoop, and twist.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors to create a positive first impression of GSU.
  • Provide wayfinding support, answer questions, and direct community members to appropriate campus resources.
  • Promote GSUPD programs such as safety escorts, Panther’s Live-Safe App, emergency phones, and crime-prevention initiatives.
  • Share safety tips and event information through approved social media and outreach channels.
  • Represent GSUPD at orientations, campus fairs, events, and student organization meetings.
  • Gather student feedback on safety concerns and communicate insights to GSUPD leadership.
  • Provide resources and support to the unhoused community as needed.
  • Identify and report low-level risks, hazards, or public nuisances that may impact campus safety or experience.
  • Immediately report any accidents, incidents, or safety concerns to the appropriate dispatcher.
  • Assist with fire drills, traffic control, and public safety awareness efforts.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and promoting safety workshops, events, and awareness campaigns.
  • Maintain all assigned daily logs accurately and consistently.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods while conducting campus patrols, safety escorts, or engagement activities.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, snow, or cold.
  • Assist with basic light maintenance tasks such as debris pickup, trash removal, and minor campus tidying needs.
