About The Position

Camp Barney Medintz is the summer overnight camp of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta. It is located on 540 beautiful acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just 75 miles N.E. of Atlanta. “Camp Barney” serves over 1250 children, ages 7-16, and 400 staff from coast to coast each summer, since 1963. We offer every imaginable activity including: water skiing, swimming, “the blob”, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, tennis, mountain biking, horseback riding, all sports, ropes courses, backpacking, campcraft, theater, music, dance, crafts, videography, journalism, radio, and much more. We are seeking a Camper Kitchen Director who is passionate about food, education, and working with children in a fun camp environment. The ideal candidate is an effective leader who can confidently supervise a small team (this position oversees three staff members) while maintaining a safe, organized, and well-managed kitchen classroom. Requirements

  • Experience working with children
  • Supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong awareness of food safety, allergies, and dietary needs
  • Creative, organized, and enthusiastic

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cooking, baking, or food education programs - preferred
  • College graduate or currently enrolled - preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead the Old City Camper Kitchen program, supervising daily cooking activities for campers
  • Guide groups of campers in preparing recipes such as bagels, cakes, cookies, and traditional Jewish dishes
  • Ensure a safe kitchen environment, with strong attention to physical safety, food handling, allergies, and dietary needs
  • Supervise,supportand traina team of 3 kitchen assistants
  • Manage kitchen supplies,maintaininventory, and ensure proper storage and labeling of food ingredients
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-run kitchen space and equipment
  • Develop fun, creative cooking experiences that areappropriate forthe age and ability of campers
  • Be a positive role model and build meaningful relationships with campers and staff
  • Work as part of a camp community with a strong emphasis on Jewish values
