About The Position

The Campaign Manager plays a key role in advancing BDC’s work in New York. Reporting to the New York Director, this role helps design and implement campaigns that advance building decarbonization policies at the local and state levels. Working closely with coalition partners and colleagues across the organization, the Manager leads campaign development, coalition engagement, supports legislative and regulatory strategies, including lobbying, and supports communications efforts that build public and political support for electrifying buildings in New York. This role sits at the intersection of campaign strategy, coalition coordination and organizing, and policy and government relations support, helping translate policy goals into effective campaigns that inspire and move stakeholders and decision-makers and strengthen the building electrification movement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading or supporting advocacy campaigns, ideally in climate, labor, clean energy, environmental justice, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success planning and managing campaigns at the local, state, or regional level.
  • Strong coalition-building and organizing skills, with experience bringing together diverse stakeholders with differing priorities.
  • Experience influencing public policy agendas or outcomes, particularly in legislative or regulatory contexts.
  • Experience developing and executing integrated campaign strategies, including communications and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong campaign communications experience, including messaging development, media engagement, or narrative strategy.
  • Commitment to equity and just transition principles, with experience centering impacted communities in campaign design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex policy issues into compelling narratives.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to shifting political timelines and deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and own a workplan, setting priorities and delivering high-quality work independently.
  • A collaborative working style and the ability to operate as a strategic partner to the New York Director and Associate Director and cross-organizational teams.
  • Willingness to travel, including to Albany, New York and New York City.

  • Familiarity with strategic campaigning, power mapping or theories of power in advocacy campaigns.
  • Knowledge of New York’s legislative, regulatory, and political landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the New York Director and Associate Director to develop and advance BDC’s strategic campaign agenda in New York, and build political and public support of ambitious decarbonization goals.
  • Design and implement local and statewide campaigns and campaign materials that support BDC’s legislative, regulatory, and policy priorities.
  • Develop campaign strategies, theories of change, and integrated work plans that align internal teams and coalition partners.
  • Establish campaign milestones and metrics to track progress and impact.
  • Convene and support coalitions of environmental justice organizations, labor partners, advocates, industry stakeholders, and community leaders, providing capacity and leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners to advance equitable building decarbonization solutions.
  • Represent BDC as a lobbyist at the state and local level.
  • Ensure campaigns center the perspectives and leadership of frontline and low- and moderate-income communities and advances worker justice.
  • Coordinate campaign activities across internal teams and external partners and allies.
  • Develop campaign materials, policy briefings, and strategic resources for coalition partners and policymakers.
  • Support BDC’s membership engagement through webinars, policy briefings, newsletters, and events.
  • Serve as a thought partner with the New York Director and Associate Director in developing and advancing BDC’s NY policy agenda.
  • Support communications strategies that support campaign goals and strengthen BDC’s thought leadership in the building electrification movement.
  • Collaborate with BDC’s communications team to develop messaging, talking points, and narrative frameworks, and contribute to BDC products including newsletters, blogs, reports, social media and webinars.
  • Identify and support earned media opportunities, including drafting press releases, statements, and op-eds.
  • Identify avenues to boost the Coalition’s visibility and leadership through writing and speaking opportunities such as opinion editorials, keynotes, and expert panel participation.
  • Work with communications and campaign consultants supporting New York campaigns.
