Reporting to the Camp Director, the Camp Manager, Retreats is responsible for planning and implementation of all community partner retreats and field trips at Camp Whitcomb/Mason and for supervising day-to-day operations of Happy Campers Day Camp. The Camp Retreats Manager supervises year-round AmeriCorps volunteers, a seasonal program team of up to 8 people during the summer months, and volunteers. The Camp Retreats Manager is responsible for daily operations with the primary focus for programs and service delivery, training and supervision of staff, retreat group recruitment, and volunteer support. Responsibilities: BGCGM Culture Demonstrate and communicate the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (BGCGM) philosophy, objectives, standards and programs through all methods available to campers, their parents, staff members, volunteers and the general public. Provide quality program activities that are inclusive, welcoming, respectful and responsive to the diversity of members, families and community. Leadership Implement activities and events on annual camp calendar. Recruitment of rental groups including marketing and camp tours to promote camp space Provide quality program activities and experiences that promotes GANAS values: Growing confidence, Accepting Responsibility, Nurturing friendships, Affinity to nature, and Solving problems. Support all rental groups on site with scheduling, programming, site & safety orientation and facility needs. Train and regularly update camp hosts in their weekend and hosting duties Monitor work assigned to staff and volunteers, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Provide leadership to the volunteer management system in placing and directing volunteers on camp projects. Human Resource Management Schedule interviews, complete reference checks, conduct interviews and make recommendation to Camp Director for candidate selection. Complete tasks according to the practices and policies developed by BGCGM. Assist Camp Director with staff training. Supervise and evaluate seasonal and year-round AmeriCorps members. Conduct weekly meetings with staff for timely communications. Participate in required trainings by the BGCGM, American Camp Association Standards, County, State and/or funder. Responsible for the compliance training requirements/regulations and documentation for American Camp Association, State Licensing Codes ATCP.78 and DCF252. Managing a Safe and Positive Environment Understand and follow BGCGM policies Implement a culture of safety for staff, volunteers, visitors, members, and daily operations. Communicate emergency procedures to all using facility through safety orienations. Ensure proper documentation of all issues and incidents related to program and event participation. Develop special programs and projects that highlight environmental education and BGCA Core programs to diverse groups primarily youth ages 5-6 years old. Supervise AmeriCorps members and seasonal, or hourly staff members. Implement systems to train, review and document skills mastery of Happy Campers staff Responsible for development and oversight of high and low challenge courses including ensuring current certification, scheduling annual inspection of elements, staff training, equipment monitoring and skill mastery documentation Oversee the camp archery program including safety procedures, staff training, skill mastery for instructors and maintaining NASP certification. Program Planning and Management Organize, manage and supervise the daily operations of Happy Campers staff and assists with overnight camp. Lead, create and evaluate Program development and implementation for school groups, retreats, rentals, and Happy Campers summer camp. Develop and evaluate lesson plans for summer camp and rental group programming. Organize weekly supply purchasing for direct service programs. Responsible for retreats registration system and data including Camp Brain annual setup. On-duty weekend staff member in a rotation with colleagues to provide service to weekend rental groups. Camp Operation and Administration Develop and maintain handbooks and communication for community partners. Ensure all Happy Campers licensing documentation is upkept and easily accessible. Provide quotes and sample schedules to community partners interested in using Camp Whitcomb/Mason. Work within compliance of grants as awarded to Camp Whitcomb/Mason, such as the AmeriCorps grant.
