About The Position

This role plays a vital part in creating a safe, engaging, and meaningful camp experience through recreational and outdoor programming that encourages confidence, teamwork, and personal growth. As a Camp Recreation Specialist, you’ll plan and lead age-appropriate activities while building strong connections with campers and fellow staff. You’ll be part of a collaborative, Christ-centered community that values fun, service, and intentional mentorship.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or GED preferred.
  • A heart for others and a mind towards Christ.
  • Should be self-motivated and teachable.
  • Six months’ experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A willingness to abide by The Salvation Army doctrinal statement and Camp Hoblitzelle’s policies.
  • CPR & First Aid certified or capable of passing by June 15, 2026 (training provided by Camp Hoblitzelle during staff training if needed.)
  • Must be able to pass a state and federal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise campers to ensure safety, well-being, and positive engagement throughout daily activities.
  • Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate recreational activities—including sports, archery, team building, hiking, and outdoor exploration—while maintaining a positive, encouraging environment that fosters connection, confidence, and participation among campers of varying skill levels.
  • Model Christian values and integrate faith into daily interactions, camper programs, and camp life.
  • Utilize appropriate behavior management and communication techniques as trained.
  • Support and participates enthusiastically as a team member in overall camp programming, special events, and evening activities as part of a collaborative staff team.
  • Maintain, inventory, and safely manage recreational equipment and supplies.
