About The Position

Under the supervision of full-time Recreation personnel, a Camp Pine Tree Manager plans, facilitates, and oversees the daily operations of a summer day camp for ages 6-11. The position works with 15-20 camp staff to offer a quality program. The Camp Pine Tree Manager(s) must further the Greenbelt Recreation Department’s summer camp mission through their personal conduct, attitude, and leadership, setting the standard for the entire camp. Requirements

  • 21 years or older.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification required.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Must be available for entire camp season (Monday-Friday, June 15 - August 14, 2026).
  • Knowledge of: Behavior management strategies for children ages 6-11.
  • Knowledge of: All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
  • Knowledge of: Department organization, standard operating guidelines and policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Skill in: Program planning and organization

  • Skill in: Written and verbal communication
  • Skill in: The use of software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; Dropbox; Zoom; Google suite.

  • Ability to communicate promptly by email, text, and/or phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in education, recreation, or related fields preferred.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Responsibilities

  • Assist in pre-summer camp planning and organization.
  • Participate in the hiring of camp counselors and specialists.
  • Manage camp interns (interviewing, hiring, scheduling, supervising, evaluating)
  • Structure and coordinate pre-summer and ongoing training for camp staff.
  • Supervise and mentor roughly 15-20 camp counselors and specialists.
  • Manage daily operations of day camp serving roughly 100 campers.
  • Promote staff unity and monitor staff morale.
  • Prepare necessary rosters and sign in and sign out sheets.
  • Modify the daily schedule as necessary.
  • Ensure proper camper behavior through the summer camp 3 R’s policy and address any behavior concerns.
  • Work with inclusion staff when campers require additional support.
  • Maintain open line of communication between the camp and camper parents regarding camp activities, behavior issues, and other pertinent topics.
  • Communicate daily with full-time Recreation personnel.
  • Assign staff for after care, and substitutions.
  • Ensure proper usage of supplies, facilities, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all first aid, incident, and accident occurrences.
  • Maintain a positive, pro-active demeanor.
  • Complete mid-season and end of summer evaluations of camp counselors and specialists.
