About The Position

Camp Pine Tree is a traditional summer day camp at the Greenbelt Youth Center, where campers ages 6-11, will participate in a variety of daily activities including sports, crafts, group games, field trips, free swim, and swimming lessons. The intern program is designed to mentor participants into the future staff of Camp Pine Tree. Under the supervision of Camp Management, an Intern is expected to assist in the daily operations of the camp. Interns are not paid and will be assigned a defined schedule during the summer, which is dependent upon the number of interns hired each summer.

Requirements

  • Intern applicants must be at least 15 years old by the start of the camp session they intend to work.
  • Education classes or experience in babysitting, youth programs, recreation, working with children preferred.
  • Experience or interest in visual art, music, dance, or sports.
  • Interest in working in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
  • Unlimited positive energy and ability to build and or work as a cohesive team.
  • Desire and ability to work in a camp setting.
  • Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable.
  • Available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am-4 pm.
  • Availability to work at least one complete camp session (Monday-Friday, June 15 - August 7, 2026) preferred.
  • Knowledge of: Champions inclusion activities, strategies, and initiatives.
  • Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding when negotiating and dealing with conflict.
  • A variety of games, sports, activities, riddles, songs, and arts & crafts that children will enjoy participating in.
  • Positive behavior management techniques.

  • Ability to follow directions and requests from camp management and staff.
  • Ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships with colleagues, teachers, and parents.

  • Readiness to adjust planned activities as needed based on factors such as staff absences and inclement weather.
  • Ability to communicate promptly by email, text, and/or phone.
  • Interns are expected to work Monday-Friday (except June 19 and July 4), 8:30 am-4 pm, for at least one complete camp session.
  • May be required to sit, stand, walk, or engage in physical activity for extended periods, particularly in outdoor settings.
  • Interns are not permitted to be left alone with the campers.
  • Interns will not be permitted to go on camp field trips.

Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastic participation with the campers in all camp activities.
  • Assist in overseeing a variety of activities. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing routine, etc.
  • Assist with the preparation, set-up and clean-up of activities.
  • Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Serve as a role model for campers through your attitude and behavior.
  • Maintain health, safety, cleanliness in program areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
