About The Position

The Camp Nurse at Wildwood , in conjunction with the camp’s leadership team , is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff. The Camp Nurse has specific relationships with other health care staff which may include volunteer and/or staff physicians, EMT’s, or other designated medical staff. Additional duties include assisting with camp clean-up and housekeeping, coordinating with Camp Counselors and the Health Care Supervisor on cleanliness, health, and specific medical concerns. The Camp Nurse is responsible for camper and staff health and safety at all times of day and night except when on time off . The Camp Nurse will be off between sessions from Saturday mornings through Sunday afternoon, with additional time off as discussed during the interview process.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a license as required by New Hampshire state law including CPR/BLS certification
  • Experience working with both children and adult illness and injury care; must enjoy working with children and providing care outside of a formal medical setting
  • Ability to lift and assist campers and staff and meet emergency needs
  • Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions including: heat, sun, humidity and rain
  • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent and/or guardian letters
  • Assess and address any sanitation and safety conditions of the camp
  • Ability to communicate with parents and/or guardians, staff, and administration about camper or staff health concerns
  • Ability to effectively interact with others, especially children, in camp’s youth-centered environment
  • Ability to adapt to changes in schedule and work assignment
  • Ability to drive to offsite locations such as camp sites, clinics, hospital , etc.
  • Must be willing and able to use basic First Aid supplies, golf cart, computers, radios, telephone, email; note: medical support via local hospital (Monadnock Community Hospital, Peterborough) and Jaffrey EMS is approximately 7 miles away

Responsibilities

  • Provide health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers
  • Follow health care policies and procedures as described in the Wildwood Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures
  • Assist with daily medication management
  • Provide direct care to staff and campers while abiding by the camp’s health care manual, and treatment procedures
  • Organize, maintain, and utilize resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff; oversee First Aid procedures and supplies
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to the state and American Camp Association Standards using Wildwood’s camper management system, CampDoc
  • Ensure staff orientation session is delivered on medical services including: standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, growth and development of age groups, staff health assessment of campers, policies on contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting
  • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp by: Verifying completion of health history and examination (with Healthcare Supervisor) Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases Keeping all medications used by campers and staff
  • Contact parents and/or guardians concerning the status of their child's health as needed; examples include an injury requiring an x-ray, illness requiring a Health Center stay, emergency treatment/accident, etc.
  • Perform tasks, oversee, and maintain equipment listed in health center maintenance logs
  • Work on-call outside of normal hours while onsite, assisting with issues as needed
