About The Position

The Camp Nurse supports the health and well-being of participants in our summer camp programs. This residential role is responsible for planning, administering, and documenting all health-related situations involving participants. The camp nurse is responsible for administering medication, basic first aid, and determining when a child should be seen by a doctor. The Camp Nurse serves as a trusted resource for staff, children, and guardians, ensuring a safe and healthy camp community throughout the summer. This position requires strict adherence to evolving health guidelines and risk management policies.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Child Protection Training (once hired).
  • Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license.
  • Ability to lift/assist campers and staff.
  • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.
  • Ability to maintain written/digital record system.
  • Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.
  • Ability to drive to off-camp health provider, physician or emergency treatment locations.
  • Observe and assess safety conditions of the camp.
  • This position is security sensitive
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements

Responsibilities

  • Camp Clinic Management Set up the camp clinic.
  • Inventory all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
  • Provide basic first aid.
  • Provide recommendation for camper transfer to urgent care or an emergency room for advanced treatment.
  • Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed.
  • Provide information at camper orientation each week that includes clinic hours, specific camper health and social needs, camp clinic procedures, medication procedures, emergency procedures, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting.
  • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director.
  • Patient Care Secure and administer camper medications.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding the medical needs of the camper while in the camp’s care.
  • Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications.
  • Drive to off-camp health provider, physician or emergency treatment locations depending on if these resources are necessary for patient care needs.
  • Medical Record Maintenance Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports to the Camp Director in a timely manner.
  • Retain records in accordance with university policy.
  • Evaluative Resource Provide leadership concerning health and safety in a camp setting.
  • Be knowledgeable of outside health resources.
  • Evaluate medical services.
  • Perform any tasks beyond those assigned as help is needed.
