About The Position

Camp Lead Staff member is responsible for assisting with the overall management of campers, camp activities, and supporting a team of counselors. The Camp Lead Staff will work directly with campers and staff to deliver quality programming, supervise activities, and handle any issues that arise.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Have the physical ability, energy, flexibility and maturity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job including performing a variety of tasks outside in various climates.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Display a Christian character.
  • Agree to abide by all the policies, rules, guidelines and regulations of the Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries, Inc.
  • Exhibit tactfulness and good judgment in dealing with people.
  • Familiar with traditional Baptist tenets, customs and practices and shall maintain a compatible lifestyle.
  • Meet all employee guidelines and qualifications as outlined by GBCH&FM, license, contracts and accreditation.

  • Utilize the Sanctuary Model of Care and conduct job responsibilities in a trauma-responsive manner.
  • Have the ability to work in partnership with other members in a team approach.
  • Arrive to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Understanding of confidential issues and protected information assigned under HIPAA.
  • Complete required training prior to and/or during camp
  • Favorable MVR and background check
  • Maintain a valid State Driver’s License as required.
  • Maintain the physical ability to operate agency vehicles and to carry out essential job duties to include performance of Emergency Safety Interventions including physical control positions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of counselors, providing guidance, training, and feedback.
  • Oversee daily camp operations, ensuring that all activities run smoothly and according to schedule.
  • Ensure that all camp staff are adhering to camp policies and procedures.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for counselors and campers regarding issues, concerns, and feedback.
  • Participate in staff orientation and camp evaluations.
  • Assist with cottage/camp set-up and regular upkeep.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of campers at all times.
  • Monitor campers during activities, meals, and downtime.
  • Assist in planning and organizing camp activities and events.
  • Serve as liaison between Camp Hawkins Program Specialist and counselors.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about camper progress, concerns, and accomplishments, as necessary.
  • Keep staff and campers informed about schedules, expectations, and changes.
  • Assist with camper registration, check-out, evening programs, campouts, and devotions.
  • Live in a shared environment with a large group of counselors and campers.
  • Foster a camp environment that encourages teamwork, respect, and community.
  • Set the tone for camp by modeling positive behavior, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
  • Ensure that the camp’s core values and mission are upheld in daily operations.
  • Represent the agency favorably at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by camp leadership.
