About The Position

Reports to the Camp Manager for assignments and work schedule. Meets with the Program Director daily to ensure assigned meeting spaces are set up and cleaned properly. Ensures that Camp Maintenance has the needed materials to continue work until completion. Trains and monitors the activity of Camp Maintenance. Keeps the Camp Maintenance crew on task. Ensure they follow through with all assigned duties. Advises Camp Manager of completed duties and other needed work assignments. Reports to the Camp Manager about any problems with Camp Maintenance. Maintains campgrounds by operating necessary grounds-care equipment, such as mowers, tractors, and chainsaws, safely and efficiently. Be aware and make necessary changes to hazards found on campgrounds. Ensures all equipment remains in proper working order and in compliance with standard operating procedures and safety standards. Locks and secures all equipment when not in use. Performs janitorial and general maintenance duties in buildings and areas designed. (Sweep, scrub, wax floors, wash windows and screens, pressure wash, etc.). Disposes of trash and waste from camp facilities and campground daily. Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state, and federal guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards. Assists with the set-up, cleaning, and resetting of meeting areas and rooms throughout the day as needed. Assists with camper luggage on opening and closing days. Operates a Salvation Army vehicle to pick up and/or deliver materials. Takes water to the assigned water areas. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team, delivering and supervising evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R., and the ability to ensure the safety of campers and other staff.
  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, culture, and protocol.
  • Ability to embrace, support, and promote The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.
  • Ability to represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work on a team, relate and work well with others.
  • Ability to accept guidance, direction, and supervision.
  • Proficiency in the safe and proper use of power equipment and tools, heavy and light machinery, and building materials.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
  • Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Ability to work with children outdoors in various conditions.
  • Self-starter and organizer.
  • Two years’ experience in a facility and site maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping business preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid and Current Driver’s License
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety.
  • Some physical requirements of the Camp Maintenance Supervisor position include endurance, including climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are required to manipulate maintenance equipment and perform maintenance activities.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
