About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is one of the largest charities in the Metropolitan DC area, serving as an anchor in the community by offering programs and services encompassing youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This seasonal Camp Driver position at YMCA Camp Letts in Edgewater, MD, runs from June through August 2025. The role involves being a supply courier, driving staff for camp business and errands, and transporting staff to and from the airport and on their days/nights off. It is an opportunity to join an amazing summer experience that is more than just a job.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Hold a valid drivers license
  • Employment is contingent on Insurance Company check through the Dept. of Transportation for any traffic violations and camp’s driving record/background check
  • Free of health problems that would effect safely driving a motor vehicle
  • Must be comfortable operating a 12 passenger bus/van
  • Ability to work on a team, relate and work well with others
  • Self starter and organizer
  • Ability to accept guidance, direction and supervision
  • Proficiency in the safe and proper use of vehicles and safety equipment, tools, and basic vehicle maintenance equipment and tools
  • Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards and monitor staff behavior and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
  • Ability to drive long hours and recognize unsafe driving conditions
  • Ability to safely and properly use vehicle tools and equipment
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the camp operation
  • Relocate to Edgewater, MD 21037 before starting work

Responsibilities

  • Being a supply courier (as needed)
  • Driving staff to conduct camp business/errands (outside of camp)
  • Transport staff and pick up staff at airport
  • Transport staff on their days/nights off as needed
  • Safely transport staff
  • Run the camp errands in town
  • Keep documentation on repairs and service on all vehicles
  • Drive staff on day trips, requiring driving a 12 passenger bus/van
  • Give passengers a safety orientation and visibly check seatbelts prior to leaving on a trip
  • Verify all passengers on the logistics sign out sheet
  • Drive staff to/from the airport (BWI/Dulles/National)
  • Make regular town (Annapolis, MD) runs
  • Keep the bus/van clean and filled with gasoline
  • Ensure that all safety equipment is in the vehicle and operable
  • Make sure that daily safety checks are done on the vehicles and documented in vehicle log (Fluid levels, Lights, Horns, Brakes, Tires, Windshield and wiper condition, Mirrors)
  • Communicate vehicle needs as appropriate to Camp Director/Associate Executive Director
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner when dealing with the staff or public
